在刚果民主共和国的丛林中生活着一群凶悍的大型猿类，它们宰杀狮子、捕食鱼类，还经常冲月亮吠叫。当地人将这种大型猿类称为“狮子杀手”，认为它们是黑猩猩和大猩猩杂交而产生的。但科学家在研究后指出，这些“狮子杀手”只不过是一种特殊的黑猩猩。
