In a list of “lab rules,” apparently meant to be humorous, there was the phrase: “Don’t believe anything the Chinaman says.” 8 v( \/ b$ P) _0 q& M# s8 b# w2 V
The existence of the web page was disclosed on an Internet forum for Chinese speaking academics. ( E" o% o X- @" h4 O) l2 t ( G4 y( K% U3 ]1 t) T" `3 w; D* TUniversity officials took the site down as soon as they learned of it and issued an apology late Monday. 8 P" e6 y7 d2 k% @. z # a+ o: q: m: `+ M5 `5 x0 Z7 ~Kubiak’s message, posted on his lab website, reads: - {. f) E$ W: Q# Z3 r, d # v, I7 Z3 }* F# Z“Please accept my personal and sincere apologies for the insensitive language recently found on my laboratory’s website. I find the language offensive and I am embarrassed by the poor judgment exhibited in posting the offending language. I have taken steps to remove the offending language and will arrange for appropriate training for my research group and me relative to the UCSD Principles of Community.”
