Chinese police have told Japan that seven demonstrators were arrested during the massive anti-Japan rally last Saturday in Beijing.
The Japanese Embassy in Beijing says it was informed on Friday that the seven were detained for engaging in unlawful activities.
It is not known who the detainees are or what they did.
Some demonstrators were witnessed being apprehended near the embassy on Saturday evening.
NHK's correspondent in Beijing says Chinese police may have told Japan about the detentions to show that the authorities are being tough on violence.
