世界第一位「老处女小姐」
选上老处女小姐…男人都怕，约会没了
去年摘「老处女小姐」（Miss Spinster）选美后冠后，就没有任何男人再和莎娃巴·德瓦哈斯汀约会。喜欢社交、总是朝气蓬勃的她左等右盼，电话铃总是不响。她说：「男人都怕我。」
八岁的莎娃巴让男人惧怕的，正是她赢了「泰国老处女小姐」头衔，她也是这项选美的第一位皇后。这顶仅颁给未婚小姐的后冠，除了代表她是美丽的女性，同时也肯定她的独立能力。
正是这份独立能耐让男人止步。泰国有愈来愈多专业女性和她一样，不仅想挑战结婚生子，走入家庭的传统观念，还想挑战他们认为极端微妙的男性自尊。
THE telephone doesn't ring any more. Since she won a beauty contest last year, this pretty, high-spirited, sociable woman cannot seem to get a date.
"They are afraid of me," said the beauty queen, Saovapa Devahastin. "I've stood up for myself. I'm a confident, successful single woman, strong enough to take care of myself. This makes them nervous."
Miss Saovapa is not just any beauty queen. She is the country's first Miss Spinster, a title that sounds as odd here as anywhere but that in this male-dominated society amounts to a declaration of independence.
Unmarried by choice, Miss Saovapa, 38, and a growing number of successful professional women like her are challenging not only the traditional imperative of marriage and family but also what they see as the delicate egos of Thai men. |
