[其他] New figures show the damage of covid-19 to people of color
People of color across the country and motnoma County bear a disproportionate burden of disease and death (links are external) from covid-19. Researchers at Johns Hopkins University report (the link is external) that, for example, found that black and African Americans accounted for only 13% of the population in states that reported race and race data on covid-19 cases. But in these States, black residents account for about a third of covid-19 deaths. These inequalities extend to Oregon, where people of color are overrepresented in cases and are more likely to suffer from complications of the virus. The most obvious gap is that Latinos make up 13% of the state population and 27% of the cases. This gap is due to an outbreak in Washington County, where nearly half of the population is positive (the link is external) because the virus is identified as Latin - Washington County has more than twice the infection rate of Hispanics. |
