Cwkp Obama Defends Afghan War in Peace Prize Acceptance Speech
WASHINGTON 鈥?On his first day as acting defense secretary, Pat Shanahan is emphasizing that China should be the Pentagon main focus.Aides say Shanahan, who leading the Pentagon after the departure of Jim Mattis, struck the China theme at a meeting Wednesday with the department top civilian leaders, including the heads of the military services.The aides aren ;t authorized to publicly discuss internal defense meetings and are speaking on condition of condition of anonymity.One aide says Shanahan told the gathering that he focused on the strategy written and implemented under Mattis that focuses on Russia and China as great power competitors. MADISON, Wis. AP 鈥?Federal prosecutors announced Friday that they wont file charges against a white police officer who shot Jacob Blake in Wisconsin last year.Officer Rusten Sheskey shot Blake, who is Black, during a domestic disturbance in Kenosha stanley cup in August 2020. The shooting left Blake paralyzed from the waist down and sparked several nights of protests. An Illinois man聽shot three people,聽killing two of them, during one of the demonstrations.State prosecutors decided not to file charges against Sheskey in January after video showed that Blake had been armed with a knife.The U.S. Department of Justice launched its own investigation days after the shooting. The agency announced Friday that it wont pursue charges against Sheskey either, saying theres not enough evidence to prove he used excessive force or violated Blake federal rights.
