圣地牙哥加大（UCSD）教授公然歧视华人？ 22日在中国留学生论坛里，该校化学系教授Clifford Kubiak的实验室条例被曝光，其中一条写道：「不要相信中国人说的话。」（Don't believe anything the Chinaman says）。7 z' A3 G! m* X9 M5 G

( b6 [: V5 f) m9 a- M# b' N虽然大多数网友都颇为气愤，不过也有网友表示，Going to see the Chinaman （去见个中国人）是句俚语，意指去华人餐馆买个外卖，并无强烈的歧视意味。而且根据一些高阶词典的解释，这里的「Chinaman」应该指的是华人餐馆常见随餐附送的幸运小饼干（Fortune Cookie），该教授也许只是用一种幽默表达方式，让学生们不要因为相信幸运小饼干里那张字条的话而找借口不好好做事。

* H& W* Y" w: q( f人在德国 社区另有网友指出，这句话里使用冠词「The」，而且Chinaman一词用的是单数形式（singular form），应该是特指某人或某事，不是泛指中国人。所以也有可能指的是在拉斯维加斯颇受欢迎的演出「The Chinaman」。所以不必望文生义，如果写成复数形式Chinamen，再告不迟。

UCSD 校长Marye Anne Fox23日发表公开信表示，UCSD对该校出现如此愚钝（Insensitive）和攻击的言语表示诚挚歉意。他们已要求该教授将不当言论移除，并将进一步与「防止骚扰和歧视办公室」（OPHD）合作处理此事。而当事人Clifford Kubiak教授实验室网站上，24日也出现道歉信。信中说，他之前并没有注意到网站上有如此攻击性语言，深感尴尬，愿为此承担全责。

Clifford Kubiak, a professor of chemistry and biochemistry at the University of California San Diego, has posted an apology for an offensive term that was used on his laboratory’s website.

University officials took the site down as soon as they learned of it and issued an apology late Monday.

“Please accept my personal and sincere apologies for the insensitive language recently found on my laboratory’s website. I find the language offensive and I am embarrassed by the poor judgment exhibited in posting the offending language. Although I was unaware of the existence of this page until it was brought to my attention, I accept full responsibility. I have taken steps to remove the offending language and will arrange for appropriate training for my research group and me relative to the UCSD Principles of Community.”
