Talk by Prof. Jocelyn Bell Burnell

Professor Jocelyn      Bell Burnell will give a public talk on Thursday October 21 at 18:30 in "Festsaal" of the      main building of the University of Bonn.

She discovered the first radio pulsar at the age of 23 in 1967, which was one of
the greatest astronomical discovery of the twentieth century. Her supervisor,
Prof. Hewish was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1974 for the decisive role in identification
of the object as a pulsar.

She will tell the story on the discovery. She gave similar talk in China several years
ago, which is excellent. The story is exciting and we can learn afterwards a lot on how
to do a scientific research.

The final reminder to every one! Note that it is not really astronomy. I would rather say
it is a story about how a young student made one of the most important discoveries in 20th
century.
