　　此前，人们曾认为这些猿类是某些类似雪人的动物或者是黑猩猩与大猩猩杂交的产物，但这些观点很快就被否定了。科学家们很快发现，它们实际上是一种大型的黑猩猩，但它们具有与其他黑猩猩不同的特性，那就是喜欢捕食大型猫科动物。
