该端庄素雅之Licchavi时代雕塑，描绘了Mayadevi生产悉达多王子后的片刻。我们新生的佛陀站在莲花台上，母亲的手抓着ashoka 树的枝条。据传说，悉达多自母亲的右面出生，生他的时候母亲正在劳动，手抓着ashoka 树准备休息。佛陀即生，便立即展示他将渡化众生之未来；并行走七步，每走一步，莲花开放一朵。佛陀同时作出了abhaya式的表情，呈无畏之姿势，预示其为渡化众生之圣者。雕塑显示，佛陀举起右手，好似抓住一片布。此姿势暗示了佛陀未来将穿着僧侣衣服，展示他将脱离尘世，出家为僧。佛陀头上为两个apsaras，亦即天仙，其为佛陀渡化众生之未来使命的明证。

This elegant Licchavi-period sculpture depicts the moment immediately after the birth of Prince Siddhartha to his mother, Mayadevi. The newborn Buddha-to-Be is shown standing on a lotus pedestal, while his mother grasps the branch of an ashoka tree. According to legend, the infant Siddhartha was born from the right side of Mayadevi as she grasped the branch of the ashoka tree for support during her labor. Upon his delivery, the infant Siddhartha immediately declared his future enlightenment and took seven steps, under each of which sprang a lotus blossom. He makes the abhaya mudra, or the fear-not gesture, prefiguring his role as revealer of the path to enlightenment. Likewise, the sculpture depicts Siddhartha with his left hand at his side, seeming to grasp a piece of fabric. This posture suggests future images of the Buddha holding his monastic robes and is a reference to his renunciation of the material world and adoption of the monastic lifestyle. Above Siddhartha are two apsaras, or celestial beings, who also bear witness to the future enlightenment of the Prince.
